Vlieland is one of the West Frisian Islands, lying in the Wadden Sea. It is the second-least densely populated municipality in The Netherlands (after Schiermonnikoog). Oost-Vlieland is the only major town in the municipality of Vlieland. It is one of the places with the least light pollution in The Netherlands, making it a good location for astrology enthousiasts. The Wadden area is part of the Unesco World Heritage, and is very rich in flora and fauna. It takes a 1.5-hour boat trip to get there from Harlingen, but it is worth paying a visit for both Dutch and foreign tourists!
